Treads Space"Pressure is nothing more than the shadow of great opportunity" August 28 Hooded CoastiesHood to Coast - what a blast! Of course those weren't my exact thoughts while I lie awake on a hard cafeteria floor hoping to sleep for a mere 60 minutes or while our van filled with the stench of sweat and my knees ached from too much pounding on the country roads, but as I look back on the 30 hour extravaganza I have to say "what a blast!"
We had a great team this year and our van rocked. We all bonded, I'm sure much more than some of us wanted to, but I'm already looking forward to next year. A few notes from the road
See ya next year Hooded Coasties!! August 13 Indoor soccer you say?Don't mind if I do.
I must say I'm quite excited about the indoor soccer league I joined over the weekend. I can't honestly say that I've ever played a day of soccer in my life, but hey, I'm excited nonetheless. Maybe I'm inspired by the beautiful David Beckham or maybe it's because I drive the ultimate soccer mom car. Whatever the reason, it will be a blast. I've been assured that I need not be good, just a girl. Okay, I can swing that. I knew it was for me when they said they meet up for beers after Sunday games. YES! Why didn't I join sooner?!? Any way, I was so excited that I jumped online when I got home and ordered all the gear from Swoosh.com. Little did I realize that the order confirmation went to my husband's e-mail address. Whoops. Can't keep that little shopping excursion secret. :)
Speaking of shopping excursions, I stocked up on a few goodies for Hood to Coast which is coming up in a few days. 11 to be exact. I'm super excited. Yes for the clothes, but also for the run. We have a great team this year and I'm pumped to get out there. Lindsay has been the world's best captain and we have lots of boys - fast boys - on our team which will be just lovely. The last time all of us ladies ran... let's just say it was brutal, but Kath you looked good bringing us over the finish line lady!
Next post I'll report on the league, the run and the hubbie's sabbatical (he's in Portland for 5 weeks starting Monday. :0)).
July 17 Deck Staining Pro-FESH-in-alI must say thanks to everyone who offered their advice on my weekend deck staining project. While none of you offered your assistance (no, I'm not holding any grudges) the advice was extremely helpful! :)
After a long Friday night (that's all I"ll say about that), I wasn't looking too forward to my weekend project, but once I pulled myself outta bed and hit Home Depot I got my second wind. I spent about $200 on plants, deck stain, paint brushes, wasp spray, contractors rags, potting soil, plant food, organic fertilizer and I was set. I got home, changed into a classic wife B, got the iPod set up on the Bose and went to work. At first I was so meticulous, not letting one ounce of stain slop anywhere. About half way through, I took a new approach. Let's just get this bitch done! I rocked through that bad boy and in the end she looks pretty damn good! Even if I do say so myself. :)
I'll attach a couple pics, as promised - a before and after so you can see my handy work. You're right, Erika, I had a blast! I think I'll take this weekend off and go play with friends. July 10 Three Months...really??Has it really been almost three months since my last blog? Gosh, those of you who just pine for my next entry must be just sick from my lack of writing. I'll work on that.
Since my April entry... Let's see what's been going on. Dealing with contractors 3000 miles away, packing up our NY pad and leaving my most favorite city in the world, moving into our house in Portland and attempting to get settled in my new/old city but instead spending my weekends with friends camping, beaching, boating and attending the blessed nuptials of yes, more freinds. It's been an eventful few months. It's really hard to believe I'm back in the NW...
It's been hot as hell these last few days. Not that I'm complaining. This is nothing compared to the wet NYC summers, but a crib with no AC just plain sucks. Brooklyn's doing well and adjusting to life back in Oregon. He is a bit spoiled however, insisting on walks when he has a lovely backyard to stretch out in. Okay, well it's not exactly the Taj Mahal, but it's a backyard nonetheless. Oh well, I guess you can't take the city outta the dog.
Chris was back in Portland for the 4th and a wedding on what will always be known as Tony Parker and Eva Longoria's wedding day. There was no Chateau in Paris or $30,000 wedding cake, but it was nice to see old friends. Chris has gone back to New York for a few weeks, so this weekend I'll flex my new domestic muscle and attempt to stain our deck. Not sure I know what I'm doing, but with two big brothers and a fantastic Lowe's website I feel pretty confident I can figure this out. Tomorrow I'll clean that bad boy with 30 second miracle and then I'll bust out my staining gear first thing Saturday morning. We shall see...
I know you're all coming back for the deck update. April 14 And the results are in...No Coney Island dogs or cotton candy to report on, but lots of blisters and aching knees to tell you about. The run went great. It started at 8am on the boardwalk at Coney Island in Brooklyn. It was a beautiful morning - sunny and not a cloud in the sky. It was definitely cold, but gorgeous. I ran well until about mile 8 when I started to hit a wall, by 10 I was struggling, then at mile 10.5 I got a second wind and kicked it out the rest of the race. My official time is 2:29:53. I'll take it! April 13 Brooklyn Half Marathonis this weekend. Actually tomorrow. Am I ready? No. Am I excited? Yes! It starts on the boardwalk of Coney Island and ends in Prospect Park. As long as the weather holds out, I think I'm in for a treat! It's quite sad that this will be my last organized run while I'm living in New York City. I know sob, sob... I'm starting to get all nostalgic. I do have lots of runs in Oregon to look forward to however, so instead of being sad I'll be excited for what the future holds. Heck I've even got myself on a Hood to Coast team. Thanks Linds! :)
Okay, well I'm fully expecting to walk tomorrow, so I may not be posting any PR's here, but I'll certainly fill you in on all the Coney Island dogs and cotton candy I expect to consume afterwards! ;) March 29 It's Been Too Long..Since I posted a blog. Wow, over two months. What the heck have I been doing? Let's see.. work, running, traveling back to Portland and Seattle, catching up with old friends in the City and just generally enjoying the New Year. Hard to believe it's already Spring. We've welcomed a couple of new bambino's already this year. Becky and Scott had their second son this month and my best friend Jen and her husband Jim from Oregon also welcomed their first son this month. Becky and Scott welcomed Casen Henry on March 22nd and Jen and Jim's son, Jacob Michael, was born on March 24th. Casen seems to be a strapping young man and so handsome - CONGRATULATIONS EMMETT FAMILY! Jacob was born 10 weeks early and is having some difficulties breathing on his own as he is quite premature. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Meurer family at this very hard time.
I've been enjoying lots of Spring runs in Central Park. It's just a gorgeous time of year here in the City. Chris and I are planning to do the Brooklyn Half-Marathon on April 14th. I can't say I feel quite ready to knock out 13.1, but it starts at Coney Island and just sounds too fun to pass up (did I just say "too fun", "run" and "13.1 miles" in the same sentence??). If I have to walk some, I have to walk. Let's just hope we have a great day for it! Other than that race, I'm planning to do the Helvetia Half in Oregon again this June and would like to get on a Hood to Coast team for the first time again in six years! We shall see what the summer brings!
Here's a pic of the ladies and Fro (lucky dog you) at the Shamrock Run in Portland a couple of weeks ago. What a great time and Linds you're a great running partner! :)
